Mr. Lubaczewski has done a lot of different things in his life to draw experiences from, caver, photographer, Scadian, brewmaster, musician with the late 80's early 90's punk band The Repressed, music critic for Spark-Plug Magazine, DJ, as long as it's interesting. The two most important things he's done is write books and become a father.
Paul's new book 'Cult of the Gator God' is set to release in one week on Monday, April 28th.
How are you handling this pandemic? At first I could barely write, the news just kept getting bleaker and bleaker, and people were just annoying me more and more with conspiracy theories and outright dangerous misinformation. Yay panic attacks! My wife works at home now, my boy's college has him studying at home, so that was also an adjustment. Now though, increasingly writing is my sanctuary, it's like in an increasingly uncontrollable world, it's the one thing, "I got this." with. Thankfully my wife and son and I all get along very well, which is a blessing, and we all have our own interests to stay out of each other's hair.
What advice would you give younger you? Swallow your pride and start earlier. I put off writing fiction for a long time. I'd dabble some and keep it to myself, but I did many, many things before finally settling in to fiction. Everyone said I was going to be a writer when I was a kid, and they also said I was a born contrarian. Contrarian won for a long time.
You binge any shows or have any you to watch? Not that much really, if the TV is one it's background. I watch Walking Dead, but at this point it's a matter of pride about sticking it out to the bitter end. I loved Happy! but unfortunately not enough other people did.
How do you start your day? Coffee, one cup every morning which I take very seriously. This morning was fresh ground Rwandan
6) I have CBD oil on hand for panic attacks if that gives you any idea. In my case, well I can write a lot from experience, because I've had a lot of experiences. That kind of thing grinds at you.
How do you get your work out? I have three different publishers. My horror comedy is on 50/50 Press, I have a horror collection that I'm currently going through final content edits on coming from Dreaming Big, and my novella "A New Life" just came out in February from St. Rooster Books. The best part is the first few good reviews, knowing people liked what I worked on, that little bit of validation that I'm doing something worthwhile. It's like a great big pat on the head and a good boy treat.
What do you want to get out of this career? Probably what everyone wants in their profession no matter what it is. Make enough to get by with it, but more importantly improving at my craft every time out of the gate. I'd like to leave a body of work that's well thought of enough that my kids can look at it and say, "That's my Da!" with some measure of pride.
Tell us about your lead character: The lead character in Cult of the Gator God, Bob Carey, is an environmental lawyer. My diplomas are in ecology and environmental science, also I've studied quite a bit of environmental law. It seems nobody gets to use what they learned anymore, we're all doing something else, where there, I got to use the things I learned. I should win a prize!
Great blog I enjoyed rreading
